چکیده

e681 British Journal of General Practice, October 2014 BACKGROUND AND ADVANTAGES OVER EXISTING TECHNOLOGY Temperature is an important vital sign for assessing acutely unwell children, and is measured frequently in primary care. However, measuring temperature accurately can be challenging. Oral and rectal thermometers are invasive and poorly tolerated, while axillary thermometers require parents or healthcare professionals to undress the child and hold the thermometer in the axilla for 30 seconds or longer. Infrared tympanic thermometers are easier to use, but can be inaccurate due to ear wax or insufficient straightening of the ear canal. Non-contact infrared thermometers (NCITs) are designed to measure temperature rapidly and noninvasively with negligible cross-infection risk. This update compares the accuracy and utility of NCITs with conventional thermometers in children.

[Systematic review and meta-analyses of diagnostic accuracy of infrared thermometer when identifying fever in children].

PURPOSE Infrared thermometers are increasingly used as a convenient, non-invasive assessment method for febrile children. However, the diagnostic accuracy of the infrared thermometer for children has been questioned, particularly in relation to sensitivity and specificity. The aim of this study was to evaluate diagnostic accuracy of infrared thermometers in febrile children. METHODS Articles ...

Clinical accuracy of non-contact infrared thermometer from umbilical region in children: A new side.

Measurement from axillary site with digital thermometer has been accepted as the most accurate method. But this method is time consuming. Tympanic and forehead measurements are often used but don't always seem to be more appropriate. Another site, umbilical region, could be an alternative site. This study aims to compare the measurements with axillary digital thermometer and non-contact infrare...

How IR Thermometers Measure Temperature

The advent of low-cost handheld infrared (IR) thermometers has led to a proliferation of non-contact temperature measurement in the food, building, and lowtemperature processing industries. However, these instruments are not as simple to use as they first appear due to systematic effects that are present in almost all measurements. This technical guide provides information relating to the calib...
